Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

In short: OkayToWalk has no accounts, sets no tracking cookies and shows no ads. We never sell data. Your location stays on your device. We count visits to our pages without cookies and without identifying anyone. To show the map, search for places and plan routes, your browser talks to a few service providers, listed below, who see your IP address.

Who is responsible

OkayToWalk (okaytowalk.com), a privately run project based in the European Union.
Contact: hello@okaytowalk.com

What we do not collect

Data processed when you use the site

The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure map service and in knowing how much it is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, where you ask for a search or route, carrying out what you requested (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). We do not control how long these providers keep their server logs; see their privacy policies.

Your location

The site asks for your location only when you use “find my location”, “start from my location” or turn on alerts, and only with your browser's permission. Your position is processed inside your browser to show it on the map and to raise alerts; it is never sent to us. If you start a route from your location, those coordinates are sent to the directions service above, like any other starting point. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your browser settings.

Storage on your device

Both are strictly necessary for features you use and stay on your device. You can clear them at any time through your browser's site settings.

Emails

If you write to hello@okaytowalk.com, the message is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a mailbox hosted by Google. We use your email only to reply, and delete it when it is no longer needed.

Partner links

We may add links to travel services such as hotel booking sites (see our affiliate disclosure). If you click one, you leave our site and the partner's privacy policy applies; partners may use cookies to record that you came from us. We only receive aggregated reports of bookings and commissions, never your personal details.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because we store almost no personal data, most requests concern the providers above. Write to us and we will help. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example in the EU country where you live.

Children

OkayToWalk is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

We will update this page when the service changes, for example when partner links are added. The date at the top shows the latest version.
